Reconstruction Update
January 22, 2024 We now have a roofing inspection company on-site evaluating the work that has been done to date to determine what can stay, what has to be repaired, and what needs to be redone. Stay tuned for more on this as information becomes available. Asbestos testing is underway. Several units that had the old tile flooring under the existing contained some asbestos under them, which needs to be remediated prior to continuing in those units. Units found to contain asbestos will undergo a thorough cleaning by professionals as the tiles have already been removed and disposed of. Those units found to not contain asbestos will see the start of mold remediation, which is necessary prior to buttoning up the walls so as to not create future problems. Considering the amount of rain water from Ian that has been leaking from the roofs, it will be a priority to identify where it exists and to undergo proper remediation. Once these steps have been completed and the roofs dried in, we can begin the work on the interiors. Our Furniture and Fixtures Committee has been hard at work identifying what products, fabrics, etc., we will be procuring. This is a significant task given the lack of a delivery date. They are working to make that as flexible as possible so as to align the delivery with the completion of the interior rebuild. Identifying an opening date is still outside our ability to predict; however, we have taken a significant step here and will hopefully be getting closer to being able to do so. I would like to recognize the team we have working on this, including the board of directors, the Reconstruction Committee, the Finance Committee, our Furniture and Fixtures Committee, the Insurance Committee and all the volunteers assisting in the rebuild. I would also recognize the contribution of Vacatia and their staff who are ably assisting us. Lastly, I’d like to let you know that we appreciate your patience during this difficult rebuild. Those who have been following know how challenging it has been. We are all working tirelessly toward that reopening and are anxious for that to occur. Thank you, Frank Catanese | President | Shell Island Beach Club
